Animal Care Specialist Staff

BOARDING your pet at Countryside Veterinary Hospital, you can rest assured that your pet will be in the trained, caring and capable hands of our animal care specialist team.

Countryside is Pet Care Services Association Accredited (formerly known as the American Boarding Kennel Association).  PCSA Accreditation means we are in compliance with the standards of this national organization. We have participated in PCSA's Voluntary Facilities Accreditation (VFA) Program and have successfully completed an on-site evaluation by PCSA. Our grooming and kennel manager has received the further personal PCSA achievement and distinction of C.K.O., Certified Kennel Operator, by testing for and passing the PCSA's rigorous national C.K.O., examination.

Here at Countryside, we understand that the decision to board your pet at a kennel is a decision not to be taken lightly. It is difficult to think of your pet out of his/her home environment while you are on vacation.

We strive to provide the finest services available in veterinary medicine and pet-care today. During a past hospital expansion, we devised a state of the art boarding facility with separate wards for Dogs, Cats, and Exotics.

Boarding at Countryside is provided as a service to our veterinary clientele. If your pet has never been to our hospital, it is easy to become a veterinary patient/client. All that is required is a pre-boarding examination by one of our veterinarians, and a copy of your pet's recent vaccination history.

All dogs, cats & ferrets must be up-to-date on distemper & rabies vaccinations and be fully examined by one of our staff veterinarians within the past year of the pet's boarding stay. All dogs must also be up-to-date on the kennel cough vaccination and proof of yearly negative fecal (stool sample) and heartworm tests are also required. All other pets must be examined within one year of the boarding stay. We also strongly urge all clients who board their dogs in kennels, travel with their dogs, or whose dogs play with other dogs, to have the canine influenza vaccine administered to their dog for further protection against this newly emerging potentially life threatening virus. (For more information on canine influenza virus click here.)

One of the many benefits of boarding your pet at our veterinary facility is that if your pet should become ill for any reason during a boarding stay, a veterinarian or certified veterinary technician is available on premises for assistance. Your pet can then be treated accordingly by the doctors and staff that you trust most, your own veterinary hospital, without transferring your pet off of the Countryside property.

Countryside strives to give that extra something to make every pet's stay enjoyable, allowing owner & pet to both have a relaxing vacation.

For any boarding related questions and/or more information about our boarding facility please contact our kennel manager, Judi Wanamaker, C.K.O. at (978) 256-9555 or any one of our kennel staff at the same phone number or our vet@cvhonline.com email address.

Medication Requirements

We no longer accept medications that are not in their original prescription bottles for our kennel patients. We are adopting this policy for safety reasons. If we do not have the original prescription bottle we cannot administer the medication(s) because we cannot verify what medication(s) is in the secondary container. If your pet has a medication that must be given for a serious medical condition and you provided the medication in a secondary container, we will still provide the medication to your pet. But as aforementioned, for your pet's safety, the medication will be dispensed from our hospital in-house pharmacy and the fee for the required dose(s) will be billed to your account. And the medication will be administered as directed by a doctor. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call us during normal business hours and ask to speak with Boarding & Grooming Manager, Judi Wanamaker, C.K.O.

DOG BOARDING INFORMATION:

Our Canine Boarding Unit consists of 29 runs in a sky-lighted, well-ventilated area. We also have an oversized run for very large dogs and isolated end runs for elderly pets.

All of our runs are indoors.

The kennel area is air conditioned in summer and heated in winter.

Dogs are exercised daily in a large secured fenced area along the left side of the building adjacent to the canine ward. This space has both asphalt and bark mulch surfaces.

Standard Crate Style Kennels are also available.

Boarding Report Cards are furnished upon discharge, detailing appetite and elimination habits, as well as, treatments received.

All dogs must be up-to-date yearly on RABIES, DISTEMPER (DHLPP) & bi-annually on KENNEL COUGH vaccinations. Every dog boarder must also be fully examined by one of our staff veterinarians within one year of the pet's boarding stay.  Proof of yearly negative fecal (stool sample) and heartworm testing is also required. Countryside strongly urges pet owners to request the administration of the canine influenza vaccination to their dogs if they will be boarding their dogs, having them groomed, traveling with their dogs, or their dogs interact with other dogs. For more information on canine influenza virus, click here.

CAT BOARDING INFORMATION

Felines spend their boarding stay in comfortable, quiet condos. Our cat condos are equipped with climb-up shelves, hide-away boxes, and port-hole doors.

All cats boarded at Countryside must be up to date on Rabies, and Distemper (FVRCP) Vaccinations. They must also have been examined by one of our staff veterinarians within the past year of their boarding stay.  Cats must be feline leukemia and FIV negative to board in the cat boarding facility.

Our cat ward is air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter. Each cat condo contains shelving and/or cubby holes, for snuggling.

High quality pet food Waltham S/O Control pHormula Diet  is fed to each cat (included in daily rate), or special diet provided by owner.

Boarding Report Cards are furnished upon discharge, detailing appetite and elimination habits, as well as, treatments received.

AVIAN & EXOTIC BOARDING INFORMATION

Trust the veterinary hospital that treats your exotic pet, to board your exotic pet. Countryside Veterinary Hospital will board any species exotic pet that we treat, including but not limited to, ferrets, birds, reptiles, rabbits, and guinea pigs.  We also have designed a special exotic treatment unit in our hospital which contains all items, (including a special state-of-the-art incubator) to care for exotic species.

Owners are encouraged to prepare a written schedule to be given to the animal care specialist with instructions regarding medications, food, feeding times, temperature preferences, etc.

Owners are required to bring food for their exotic companion, unless the food is one of the many reptile, avian, ferret, rabbit or guinea pig foods that we sell in the retail area. In which case, owners may purchase food at time of boarding admission if necessary.

Cages, tanks, food and water dishes, must be supplied by owner for all avian boarders and other exotic boarders requiring cages or terrarium tanks. This minimizes the stress of a new environment on the boarding pet.

The temperature of the exotic ward is closely monitored.

Exotic companions are housed in a safe, warm, comfortable indoor environment.

All exotic pet boarders must be examined by one of our staff veterinarians within one year prior to the pet's boarding stay.

ALL FERRET BOARDERS, must be up-to-date on distemper and rabies vaccinations.

Boarding Report Cards are furnished upon discharge, detailing appetite and elimination habits, as well as treatments received.
