Countryside's Furry Fitness Weight Loss Club

In our continued effort to aid our patients in their weight loss goals, we offer a weight loss program tailor made for your dog or cat who needs to shed a few extra pounds in order to improve their overall health.

After all, the old saying, "You are what you eat.," applies to pets as it does to people. The Furry Fitness Club holds free monthly meetings at 7pm, the 1st Wednesday of Every Month! Click here for upcoming dates.

How it works...Once your pet’s weight situation has been identified, your pet can be enrolled in our program.  Then the following steps will be taken:

1. A CVH veterinarian will accurately record your pet’s weight and body condition score in your pet’s medical record.
2. The veterinarian will set a realistic weight goal for your pet.
3. You will receive dietary recommendations including the type and amount of food, tips for changing food, and treat recommendations.  You will also receive a measuring cup to use in feeding your pet.
4. A “before” picture will be taken.
5. You will receive information on exercise tips and health benefits of this program. 
6. You will receive follow up phone calls for any questions you may have. 
7. We recommend your pet return for regular “weigh-ins” until the weight goal has been reached.  For cats, bring your cat to CVH and ask a CRS to weigh your cat on one of our cat scales.  Then have the CRS record your cat’s weight in your cat's medical record.  When bringing in your dog for a weigh-in, simply have them sit on the scale and record their weight on the clipboard hanging by the scale.  A staff member will later transfer the weight measurement into your dog’s medical record.  Your pet's weight counselor will review each new weight recording.
8. Once your pet has achieved their optimal weight, an “after” picture will be taken and we will recommend a diet type and feeding amount to keep your pet at this optimal weight.

 

What does it cost? The Furry Fitness Weight Loss Club meetings, weigh-in's, dietary recommendations, follow-up phone calls, photographs and exercise tips are free. You can call your weight loss counselor as often as you like with any questions. Most Furry Fitness Weight Loss Club members join the club upon recommendation of the veterinarian at the pet's regular check-up. Fees apply to any food purchases, or follow-up appointments or products purchased, if applicable.

Some pet food companies have offered discounted pricing on their weight-loss products in order to help the pets in the Furry Fitness Diet Program meet their weight loss goals. Your pet's weight loss counselor will pass these savings, if applicable, on to you.

What if my Pet is not Losing Weight? If your pet just can’t seem to lose weight, we will recommend a follow-up appointment with a veterinarian.  There are treatable medical conditions which may prevent weight loss (such as hypothyroidism in dogs) and further testing may be necessary to identify these conditions in your pet. In some cases, the drug Slentrol, might be an option.
